Happy Dragon Boat Festival!
Sep 15,2021
The Dragon Boat Festival is a festival set up to commemorate the famous patriotic poet Qu Yuan.
In Chinese history, the idea of commemorating Qu Yuan with the Dragon Boat Festival has a history of more than 1500 years. It is said that after Qu Yuan threw himself into the Miluo River, the local people immediately rowed boats to save him and walked all the way to Dongting Lake. No remains of Qu Yuan were seen. At that time, on rainy days, boats on the lake gathered near the pavilion on the bank.
When people learned that this was to rescue the wise minister Dr. Qu, they rushed out again in the rain and climbed into the huge Dongting Lake. In order to mourn, people rowed on rivers, which gradually developed into a dragon boat race. People were worried that the fish in the river would eat Qu Yuan's body, so they put the rice balls into the river after returning home to avoid fish and shrimp spoiling Qu Yuan's body, which became the custom of eating dumplings later.
